Bring some flat-screen elegance to your office, dorm, kitchen, bedroom, or apartment with Toshiba’s compact, lightweight 23HL84 LCD television. With minimal glare, no screen curvature, and no irritating high-frequency screen noise, the 23-inch set stands fully apart from its CRT counterparts. Set it on a table using the supplied stand or mount it on the wall using optional brackets for ultimate space efficiency.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, long screen life with no risk of image burn-in, and space savings. This 1,366 x 768-resolution set boasts not only 2 ColorStream HD high-definition (up to 720p) component-video inputs, but also a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) for a direct digital connection with an HD set-top box or HD satellite receiver (sold separately).

HD Dynamic Contrast increases contrast and color saturation to create deep, rich images. The intelligent circuitry analyzes both the dark and bright areas of the picture, separately optimizing the dynamic range in each area. Picture enhancements include luminance transient improvement, green enhancement, and blue stretch. This circuit is only active in sports mode and works with all inputs.

A 3D Y/C (4 MB, 10-bit) digital comb filter with Vertical Contour Correction ensures sharp, clean pictures from RF (older VCR, laserdisc) and composite-video signals. Cinema Mode (3:2 pulldown switch) circuitry identifies original film-based content from DVDs, then reassembles the frame sequence to more accurately reproduce the original 24-frame-per-second material.

Dual ColorStream HD component-video inputs (Y, Pr, Pb) provide the ultimate picture quality from high-resolution component-video signals (as from compatible DVD players or satellite receivers). Two sets of rear AV inputs (one with S-video) and a set of front AV inputs foster easy connection with a camcorder or gaming console, and a rear audio output lets you hook the set up with a surround receiver.

And the 5-watts-per-channel 23HL84 offers SRS WOW processing, which combines 3D Sound (simulated surround sound from any stereo audio) with TruBass (yet another low-frequency enhancement) and Focus (which clarifies voices). If that’s not enough aural excitement, you can also enjoy 2-channel simulated surround courtesy of Dolby Virtual Surround.

HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link the set with any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver). HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio–all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.

# Buy Toshiba 32AF45 32″ Flat Screen CRT TV 32AF45

OK, so it’s not the best there is but can you really expect the best for this price. Our old 32″ broke. It was a RCA and we got it in late ‘97. For over a year now we have had to sit next to the TV and unplug it and plug it back in to get the sound to work. We also had problems reading some small print on the Direct TV menu and thought it was Direct TV until we hooked up our new Toshiba about three weeks ago and could read things clearly. The screen actually showed more picture than the old one too. I guess it was more broken than we thought. My only complaint is the picture really isn’t crisp (compared to the high end models we looked at in the store) and the color does seem a little strange on some shows but compared to what we were using we are totally happy. We really shopped around for this one and just wanted something to tide us over until we could save up for a bigger high definition set. I think for the price we got a great deal. We got ours at a local shop for 9 and didn’t have to worry about shipping.

Worst TV we have ever owned! – Douglas C. Dabbs – Atlanta, GA USA
We were really excited when we got this TV for our wedding gift, but it has turned out to be a nightmare. We have had to return and replace the TV 4 times now, which is not easy since it is a 150 pound TV. The first TV had black bars running vertically through the screen, the second, third, and fourth TVs had images that were not centered on the screen, bowed on the top and bottom, and green bars running vertically through the image. I would never recommend this model, in fact, I would definitely say it is the worst TV I have ever owned. We now have to return this TV for the fifth time, and we are definitely not getting this model again.

You think Samsung uses a cheaper screen? I dont.

Just bought this Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV .

No specific comment yet ,too early – probably low frequency of repair and excellent picture quality.

But dont believe everything a salesguy tells you (or tells someone else who “knowledgably” passes it on to you).

They push what’s best for them to push and will say anything to that end.

Panel failed after 2 year! Fell substantially short of my expectations – PxTx –
COntaced Toshiba, they have me hire a repair person to diagnose. Repair guy says this model uses an LG Panel, which has a known failure. Tells me LG has been standing behind their TVs, but doubts Toshiba will do anything. Said you’ll probably be buying a new TV.

Toshiba couldn’t care less that I paid good money for a TV to only get 2 years out of it! I told them I expect more than 2 years, and other manufactures say a tv life is about 8 years- or so the national average is. Unfortunately I’m on the wrong side of that bell curve.

I’ll never buy another Toshiba TV because of how they handles my call. They made a new panel avalable to my repair person at a cost of ,220, which I still would have to pay that plus labor! I paid 00 for the whole TV! Get real Toshiba…

I have had this television for a total of 20 months…and now it is worthless. The video panel suddenly went bad. A Toshiba certified repairman (after driving 2 hours) diagnosed the problem and reported 00 for just a new panel, no labor or shipping included in that price. I regrettably didn’t purchase an extended warranty so I am completely screwed. Toshiba customer support was rude and unempathetic to the point where I will never invest in anything “Toshiba.” Just thought sharing my horror story may save someone else the heartache…..
