A short walk-thru with yaVDR 0.1.1, an Ubuntu-based (9.10) installable ISO which combines the builds of experimental-branch VDR for HDTV (H.264/DVB-S2), experimental PVR-branch of XBMC (aiming at integration of a TV application (VDR in this case) into the UI of XBMC) and web-access via Firefox. All is running on an X11 screen with OpenBox lightweight windows manager, featuring VDPAU-support on recent nVIDIA GPUs. Using VDPAU means that even playback of H.264 Full-HD content is possible with less that 20% CPU usage — the GPU takes care of the decoding. Nice stuff, and really easy to setup, it even comes with the neccessary DVB-S2 drivers — it was install and go! Some more information (in German) at blogdoch.net Captured from a Full-HD LCD with my Panasonic TZ7. Edited with OpenShot 1.1.2 (which really didn’t like me this time :( )
